The media discourse around intensive lifestock farming is conducted contradictive which provokes controversial reactions. The images used for this discussion support this discourse. On one hand there are pictures of „happy,“ „species-appropriate“ kept animals on food packages and on the other hand there are stills of animals with open wounds from hidden videos captured in stalls by animal welfare groups. This series is an attempt to generate pictures „in between“ which are contradictive to the dominant media discourse not only contentwise but also in the choice of aesthetic resources. Furthermore, the series contradicts itself: the warmth and proximity produced by the reddish pictures showcasing the interaction of human and animal versus the cold and sterile inventory of utensils.
